Peerless and Friends Do It Again for the Kids
$35,000 raised for the children of Riley Hospital
Zionsville, IN – July 14, 2006 - Despite some stifling heat and humidity and a short break
for a fireworks show (sponsored by Mother Nature), the 7th Annual Peerless
Golf Outing benefiting Camp Riley was a great success.
More than (125) employees, partners and friends of Peerless Pump Company
converged on The Golf Club of Indiana on June 22nd, for the annual event.
Amid the occasional scream of “fore” and “water”, the hazy and humid day
saw some outstanding golf. Bob Langton’s (General Manager, Industrial),
team of Don Kane, Jeff Ruse (WEG Motors) and Jim Thompson (Pumps Plus)
brought home the 1st Place trophy coming home with a fourteen under par
score of 58.
Art Kodroff (Peerless Controller) won the putting contest and earned the
right to attempt a 50’ putt for $10,000. Art gave it a good run, but came up
just short. Cody Allen (VTS –Peerless Supplier) won the long drive
competition with a booming drive that traveled 300-yards to a very narrow
fairway. Mike Cates (Peerless Vice President) won the closest to the pin
contest with a shot landing about two-feet short on the 138-yard, 17th
hole. It should also be mentioned that the team of Bradley Allen and Willie
Bryant (VTS) and Doug Mitchell and Matt Laurie (Peerless ISS Dept.) were
awarded the “Honesty in Scoring” award, for not using the eraser on their
scoring pencil.
The real winners of the day were the children of Riley Hospital who, thanks
to Peerless partners and friends, may now have the opportunity to spend
some time at camp. Matt Bauschek, Riley’s onsite host for the event also
mentioned that it is not only the children who benefit from fundraising
events such as this. Many of the illnesses suffered by the children require
non-stop, 24-hour care and by allowing for the children to attend a camp
that is staffed by well trained medical professions, it also allows the
care-giving parents an opportunity for a break.
“This is the most money we have raised in a single year,” said Meredith
Mills, the organizer of the outing (and Peerless Accounts Receivable
Manager). “This will bring our seven-year total to more than $150,000” said
Mills. We all congratulate and thank Meredith, her group and our partners,
for their great support for a wonderful cause.
